Local Food Cooperative Software

The Jist: This software operates on an order cycle instead of an “always open” system. Producers/farmers can log in and add products to their product catalog at anytime for sale. During a designated time, cooperative members place orders.

The Legacy of Asparagus v2.0

Version 2.0 of the local-food-coop software was initially released at about the same time as version 1.4 of Tomato and with similar functionality but a different codebase. Asparagus was never fully debugged, but has many worthwhile code pieces that can be used for other development purposes. As the result of continued development on Tomato, the fork between the two became wider and further development of Asparagus was abandoned. Those interested in exploring the code may do so here (login:food2 pass:local2) but further development for food-cooperative use is discouraged.

The Asparagus codebase is being modified for use by the Sail Transport Network to serve as the basis for coordinating shipping loads with sailboats, a group which has already been helping organic producers transport produce to the Seattle market. See the Interview with David Reid, Sail Transport Network’s history maker for more information.
